    Minimum Qualifications

    There are no formal education or experience requirements. However, there are certain physical requirements.

    License Requirements:
    1. Candidates must possess a Motor Vehicle Drivers License valid in the State of New York and either 2 or 3 below.

    2. For appointment in certain agencies, possession of either a Class 1 or a Class 2 or a Class

    3 Motor Vehicles Drivers License, or a combination of these licenses, may be required at the time of appointment.

    3. For other agencies which do not require the licenses in 2 above at the time of appointment, possession of either a Class 3 Learners Permit or a Class 3 Drivers License is required at the time of appointment. In addition, for these agencies, the Class 3 license must be obtained within three months of the date of appointment.

    JOB SUMMARY

    This job is in the Delivery family (Department), which includes positions the duties of which are to administer, supervise, or perform work involving the planning, directing, or operating of transportation equipment and service, including positions involving responsibility for driving, loading, and coordinating delivery.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for operating commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 26,001 lbs. to deliver or pick up merchandise, materials, and equipment to assigned regional and/or local destination and/or customers in a timely fashion.
    • May be responsible for driving (regularly or periodically) and performing other safety-affecting activities on motor vehicles weighing 10,000 pounds or less in transportation on public highways in interstate or foreign commerce, excluding passenger or hazardous materials transportation vehicles.
    • Follows appropriate safety procedures for transporting goods including securement of cargo for transport (may include use of tarps).
    • Safely maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions.
    • Loads and unloads vehicles as required.
    • Performs daily vehicle inspections (as defined by the FMCSA) to ensure that the trucks are roadworthy and that safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
    • Records any inspection information or list of defects on the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) as required by the FMCSA.
    • Uses an electronic logging device (ELD) to log daily activities as required by the FMCSA.
    • Reports traffic incidents, including, traffic accidents and violations, or damage to the vehicles to supervisory staff.
    • Reads bills of lading and manifests to determine assignment details.
    • Checks all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate and obtains receipts or signatures for delivered goods or collects payment for services when required.
    • Responsible for adhering to safety processes and protocols.

    REQUIREDPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience with relevant cargo required.
    • High School diploma/GED required.
    • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) per assigned vehicle type required.
    • Successful completion of a road test required.

    • Ability to meet FMCSA drug and alcohol clearinghouse requirements.

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Vehicle Operation

    • Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
    • Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
    • Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs.
    • Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Complete required reports.
    • Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
    • Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street.

    • Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification.

    Compensation Range: $18.76 – $25.45

    Responsibilities:

    Operates an automobile, minibus, or light duty truck to transport persons, equipment, or supplies.

    TYPICAL DUTIES:

    1.Drives automobile, minibus, or light duty truck.

    2.Transports persons and/or loads, hauls and delivers supplies, equipment, lab tests, mail and freight.

    3.Maintains and may perform minor repair work on vehicles.

    4.May keep special forms or records of vehicle trips, mileage, gas, repairs, etc., and summarize into periodic reports.

    5.Assists in receiving and shipping areas when requested and performs other duties as directed.

  • Non CDL Truck Delivery Driver

    Salary: $28.65 – $29.65 Per Hour 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Each item should account for 10% or more)

    • Lift up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and up to 100 lbs. on an occasional basis.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Training:
    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
    Related Experience/Requirements:
    Must be 21 years of age or older.
    Valid U.S. driver’s license issued by the state of legal residence with proper endorsements if required. No more than two convictions in the past two-year period for traffic violations, no DUI convictions in the past three years, no driver’s license suspensions in the past three years. Must be able to pass DOT physical.
    One year multi-stop delivery experience required or 6 month local delivery experience and/or foodservice industry experience. Hand cart delivery experience preferred.
    Able to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and safety regulations.
    Must have basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
    Must pass pre-employment testing (including items such as a Background Check)
    Have knowledge of area and/or map reading abilities.

    AAA Light Service Driver. (base hourly + commission + bonus + tips) This position will require some light duty mechanical skills, but can be taught.     Salary: $23.82 Per Hour

    Brief Description of Duties: The Bus Driver will be responsible for the following:

    • Drive a full-size passenger bus on and off SUNY property in order to transport passengers and materials as required.
    • Check horn, directional lights, head, tail, parking and emergency lights for proper operation. Check proper operation of braking system. Check tires for visible damage. Pre-trip inspection of vehicle and completion of required forms.
    • Monitor gauges and as necessary refuels the tank on the vehicle.
    • Supervise the loading and unloading of passengers and personal property onto the bus.
    • Post manifests, inventories, and other records of goods and passengers transported. This would include the compiling of count sheets from all drivers when assigned.
    • Transport passengers with disabilities.
    • Operate radio and/or cellular telephones as needed to communicate with dispatcher.
    • Keep written records of trips, mileage, stopovers, fuel bridges, tolls and records of passenger counts. Report any malfunction and needed repairs to supervisor or maintenance staff. This would include the compiling of the daily bus logs from all drivers on a daily basis.
    • Drive campus routes and do charters for departments and graduation work for Stony Brook University.
    • Wash, sweep, clean and fuel buses, as well as vans and other state vehicles.
    • In an emergency situation, the driver may be required to perform some minor repairs such as replace a bulb, put air into tires, replace windshield wiper blades, etc…
    • May map routes, itineraries, and points of call for other drivers as well as yourself.
    • Transport vehicles to and from vendors for repairs.
    • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

    Special Notes: These are temporary full-time positions 40 hours per week, and temporary part-time positions 20 hours per week, shift and pass days varied with an anticipated start date of August 21, 2025 and anticipated end date of May 27, 2026. Night and weekend work may be required. FLSA Nonexempt positions, eligible for overtime provisions of the FLSA.
