    Minimum Qualifications…

    • Interstate (Class A) Commercial Driver’s License with Hazmat endorsement (including cleared background check) or will obtain HAZMAT endorsement (with cleared background check) within 120 calendar days of date of hire.
    • Minimum of 30 months experience working in a full-time Class A tractor/trailer driving position in the previous 4 years OR successful completion of the Walmart Fleet Development Academy Program.

    Qualifications

    • Must have a Class A or B CDL valid for the state in which the position works
    • Requires a safe driving record

    • Understand refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines and practices; understanding of Department of Transportation and State requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles

      Responsibilities
    • The Front Load Driver operates refuse collection vehicles on pre-assigned and special routes to pick up garbage
    • Performs pre-trip and post-trip truck check and cleaning; and performs other related work as assigned
    • Work is performed under supervision and performance is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation of routes, and discussion of problems
    • The Front Load Driver is responsible for servicing commercial business picking up Front Load Containers
    • Empties containers using levers inside truck cab to empty container into the truck using forks
    • May need to open corral doors to access containers and as needed, rolls 3-4 yard can on castors weighing up to 600 pounds into position for dumping
    • Picks up loose trash off truck and/or ground and cleans up spills that may occur
    • Transports waste to a designated local landfill/disposal area
    • Completes route / productivity sheets, records mileage, fuel consumption, log book (as required), Vehicle Condition Reports, and other forms
    • Communicates professionally with customers and reports any customer issues / complaints to appropriate internal contacts

    • Cleans waste from the packer blade and the truck body on each landfill run to ensure smooth and safe operations

    • Inspect/Clean Truck: Lift hood, inspect under the hood, walk around and check under carriage; pump gas, check fluid levels and air tires – Uses air gauge, dipstick for levels, and gas pump nozzle for gas fill

    KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    Contracts and Acquisitions is currently seeking a Delivery Driver to work at our location in Frederick, MD. The Delivery Driver responsibilities will include:

    • Driving automobile, light truck, mid-sized vehicle, Material Handling equipment (Forklifts, pallet trucks, etc.) to pick-up and deliver parcels, material, equipment, feed and bedding, compressed gasses (Cylinders/dewars) to various business concerns or governmental agencies, to include local delivery area.
    • Delivering time critical packages (packaged biological materials) and office items to end-users within established time frames.
    • Obtaining chain of custody signatures.
    • Performing miscellaneous errands, such as carrying mail to and from the post office.
    • Sorting/processing or opening incoming/outgoing mail.
    • Obtaining receipts for articles delivered and keeping a log of items received and delivered.
    • Conducting routine preventative maintenance inspection of vehicle used.

    This position is designated as a Primary Driver and will be responsible for complying with the Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. Use of Fleet Government-Owned or -Leased Vehicles Standard processes.

    Working Hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    This position has the potential for exposure to biological, chemical, and other laboratory-related hazards.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    JOB SUMMARY

    This job is in the Delivery family (Department), which includes positions the duties of which are to administer, supervise, or perform work involving the planning, directing, or operating of transportation equipment and service, including positions involving responsibility for driving, loading, and coordinating delivery.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for operating commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 26,001 lbs. to deliver or pick up merchandise, materials, and equipment to assigned regional and/or local destination and/or customers in a timely fashion.
    • May be responsible for driving (regularly or periodically) and performing other safety-affecting activities on motor vehicles weighing 10,000 pounds or less in transportation on public highways in interstate or foreign commerce, excluding passenger or hazardous materials transportation vehicles.
    • Follows appropriate safety procedures for transporting goods including securement of cargo for transport (may include use of tarps).
    • Safely maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions.
    • Loads and unloads vehicles as required.
    • Performs daily vehicle inspections (as defined by the FMCSA) to ensure that the trucks are roadworthy and that safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
    • Records any inspection information or list of defects on the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) as required by the FMCSA.
    • Uses an electronic logging device (ELD) to log daily activities as required by the FMCSA.
    • Reports traffic incidents, including, traffic accidents and violations, or damage to the vehicles to supervisory staff.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Purpose of Position:

    Under supervision, operates motor vehicles and equipment such as passenger cars, ambulances, hearses, trucks, wreckers, forklifts, tractor-trailer trucks and sign-erecting trucks used by City departments. In a small garage, may do dispatching of personnel, motor vehicles and equipment; performs related work.

    Examples of Typical Tasks:

    Minimum Qualifications

    There are no formal education or experience requirements. However, there are certain physical requirements.

    License Requirements:
    1. Candidates must possess a Motor Vehicle Drivers License valid in the State of New York and either 2 or 3 below.

    2. For appointment in certain agencies, possession of either a Class 1 or a Class 2 or a Class

    3 Motor Vehicles Drivers License, or a combination of these licenses, may be required at the time of appointment.

    3. For other agencies which do not require the licenses in 2 above at the time of appointment, possession of either a Class 3 Learners Permit or a Class 3 Drivers License is required at the time of appointment. In addition, for these agencies, the Class 3 license must be obtained within three months of the date of appointment.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Drive a DS Logistics vehicle along your assigned route
    • Pick up lightweight cardboard materials (not trash) from commercial recycling bins
    • Take before and after photos at every stop
    • Group and photograph unbroken boxes (important for company revenue)
    • Deliver all collected materials to the designated recycling center (DC closes at 3:30 PM, Baltimore closes at 5:00 PM)
    • Collect weight sheet from recycling center at the end of each route — this is required

    • Share live iPhone location with dispatch at the start of your shift and keep it active until the route is completed and vehicle is returned
