    Duties

    The primary purpose of the work is motor vehicle operation in concert with custodial and janitorial work such as sweeping, scrubbing and waxing floors, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures. Does the full range of cleaning duties in an assigned area following general instructions on the work to be done. Scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubbers and buffers.

    Washes walls using powered wall washing machine and/or by hand. Vacuums/cleans rugs using heavy vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans and oils these machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them. Washes and replaces blinds and washes ceiling fixtures, exterior walls and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Replaces and/or installs paper goods, etc, in restrooms.

    Uses various preparations to clean and maintain linoleum, wood, marble, and various kinds of floor, wall and ceiling surfaces. Removes stains from a variety of surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions.

    May be directed to work under the direct supervision and oversight of a Journey Level WG-09 or higher for daily activities involving building systems general maintenance and Preventative Maintenance. Assists or serves as a spotter/helper to higher graded staff. Assist with building system general inspection and preventative maintenance. Assist with system testing and monitoring and adjusting under the direction of higher graded staff. Assist with basic plumbing install and preventative maintenance (fixture replacement, drain cleaning, etc.)

    Performs basic labor on multiple building and utility job sites. Occasionally works on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, wash walls, etc. Runs powered cleaning equipment; cleans and oils it, and changes brushes and accessories. As required, keeps shop areas clean and in order. Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes oil, hydraulic fluid, grease, and other spilled liquids.

    Moves heavy boxes, crates, parts, or other obstacles in order to clean up the area and picks up scraps of wood, metal and other materials. Removes scrap and trash cans from area to central pickup point. Wipes benches, machinery etc. as directed. Performs general trash collection/removal from areas such as offices, restrooms, public areas, etc.

    On a regular and recurring basis operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc…) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park.

Located in Northeastern, Ohio Cuyahoga Valley National Park is situated along 22 miles of the Cuyahoga River Valley in a suburban setting between the cities of Akron and Cleveland. The park is predominately natural forest and meadow with some areas of agriculture and excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. Winters are moderately cold with average temperatures in the 20 to 30 degree ranges. Heavy snowfall is not unusual. Summers are moderately warm, average temperatures in the high 70’s and 80’s with occasional warm spells in the 90’s. Rural, suburban, and urban communities are all within a reasonable commuting distance.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: I have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform work as a motor vehicle operator and assisting journey-level, or other higher graded workers; my experience included work such as operating gasoline or diesel-powered motor vehicles, the use of motor vehicles of a gross vehicle weight up to 10,000 pounds to transport material to and from the work site; operating pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew pickup trucks, jeeps, and station wagons of a gross vehicle weight up to 10,000 pounds.     The position is located in Engineering Service, Fleet Management Section, at the VA San Diego Healthcare System, in San Diego, CA. This position will provide transportation to Veterans and their spouses who live in rural areas within the VA San Diego Healthcare System and surrounding satellite clinics catchment areas.

    Duties

    This position provides non-emergent, safe transportation of eligible Veterans and cargo. The incumbent will operate and provide preventative maintenance for patient transport vehicles. Incumbent is the first contact with the veteran and is responsible for making the first positive impression. Incumbent interacts in a courteous and respectful manner with a wide variety of people each day. Incumbent is responsible for providing the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) program office a list of Veterans who arrived at the VA San Diego Healthcare System via the VTS transportation bus. Incumbent is responsible to insure only eligible Veterans, and their caregivers are transported to the Medical Center or satellite clinic and returned to their respective pick-up locations.


    Major Duties:

    • Operates and performs operator maintenance on one or more motor vehicles including, van trucks, stake trucks, passenger shuttle vans, and cargo vans. Vehicles are driven on the basis of either specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules over public roads (or the equivalent) through various kinds of traffic and varying weather conditions.
    • May operate platform, van or stake trucks and cargo vans to pick up and deliver materials and equipment or tow equipment to various locations and work sites.
    • Determine the manner and sequence of loading cargo to achieve load balance and adequate protection for fragile items. \
    • Secure the cargo with tie-down ropes or a tarpaulin to prevent shifting and to protect the load, and mark dangerous or protruding cargo with flags, placards, or reflection lights.
    • Check material loaded or delivered against various documents to prevent errors and to certify the condition of the items and obtain signatures from receiving personnel.

  • Bus Driver

    Salary: $23.82 Per Hour

    Brief Description of Duties: The Bus Driver will be responsible for the following:

    • Drive a full-size passenger bus on and off SUNY property in order to transport passengers and materials as required.
    • Check horn, directional lights, head, tail, parking and emergency lights for proper operation. Check proper operation of braking system. Check tires for visible damage. Pre-trip inspection of vehicle and completion of required forms.
    • Monitor gauges and as necessary refuels the tank on the vehicle.
    • Supervise the loading and unloading of passengers and personal property onto the bus.
    • Post manifests, inventories, and other records of goods and passengers transported. This would include the compiling of count sheets from all drivers when assigned.
    • Transport passengers with disabilities.
    • Operate radio and/or cellular telephones as needed to communicate with dispatcher.
    • Keep written records of trips, mileage, stopovers, fuel bridges, tolls and records of passenger counts. Report any malfunction and needed repairs to supervisor or maintenance staff. This would include the compiling of the daily bus logs from all drivers on a daily basis.
    • Drive campus routes and do charters for departments and graduation work for Stony Brook University.
    • Wash, sweep, clean and fuel buses, as well as vans and other state vehicles.
    • In an emergency situation, the driver may be required to perform some minor repairs such as replace a bulb, put air into tires, replace windshield wiper blades, etc…
    • May map routes, itineraries, and points of call for other drivers as well as yourself.
    • Transport vehicles to and from vendors for repairs.
    • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

    Special Notes: These are temporary full-time positions 40 hours per week, and temporary part-time positions 20 hours per week, shift and pass days varied with an anticipated start date of August 21, 2025 and anticipated end date of May 27, 2026. Night and weekend work may be required. FLSA Nonexempt positions, eligible for overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.

  • Van Driver

    Salary: $30.07 – $34.99 Per Hour 

    What You’ll Do

    • Transport ReDiscover clients comfortably in a ReDiscover owned van in a timely manner.
    • Provide a welcoming atmosphere that is free of distractions.
    • Show sensitivity to and appreciation of issues related to age, religion, ethnicity, race, socio-economic status and sexual orientation and gender and demonstrates respectful and appropriate language and non-verbal behavior. Will actively seek to resolve issues, problems and concerns while also accept and respond appropriately to feedback from clients, staff, supervisors and referral sources.
    • May perform agency courier duties.
    • Conduct vehicle safety checks and light maintenance to ReDiscover owned vehicles, which may include, but not limited to routinely checking fluid levels, filling fuel tank as necessary, and other maintenance related tasks.
    • Record vehicle mileage for program tracking purposes.
    • Work with ReDiscover staff to provide clerical assistance in an effort to help the program in a cost-effective manner.

    Requirements of the Position

    • High school diploma or GED is required.
    • Must maintain a valid chauffeur’s Class E drivers license.
    • The ability to work with all persons with multiple challenges (mental illness, substance abuse, physical challenges, developmental disabilities, etc.
    • Ability to work 24hours in a business week. Mon-Wed or Wed-Fri depending on availability, 7AM-4PM.
    • Some mechanical aptitude is needed
    • Knowledge of streets and highways in southwestern Jackson County is also desirable
