Pay: $15.24 Per Hour
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Inspects vehicle prior to driving.
- Drives and operates vehicles on assigned schedule and route that may vary on a daily basis to transport passengers to and from destinations.
- Uses discretion to determine order of passenger pick-up and delivery.
- Monitors and reports status and needs of the vehicles for maintenance and safe operation.
- Maintains first aid supplies and operates fire suppression equipment on the vehicles.
- Records mileage, number of passengers, times, and other required information on forms or electronic device.
- Collects and keeps account of fares; prepares receipts for monies collected.
- Assists passengers with seat belts, assists with getting in and out of vehicles as needed; and operates wheelchair lifts.
- Ensures the vehicle is clean and free of litter.
- Fuels vehicle used.
- Ensures that passengers arrive at destinations on time.
- Checks passengers returning from medical appointments for any signs of bleeding.
- Re-inspects vehicle after use; notes and reports any issues/concerns.
- Works a flexible and irregular schedule; assists on a variety of established routes that may vary on a daily basis; and is subject to emergency call-backs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- No experience required, however some public driving experience is desired;
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Possession of a good driving record is required.
- Possession of a Certification in CPR is desired.
- Possession of a Certification in First Aid desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the geographical layout of the County and surrounding counties.
- Knowledge of the needs and behaviors of clients served.
- Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of vehicles.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
- Skill in communicating, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in operating vans, cars, and buses safely.
- Skill in using a computer.
- Ability to work effectively with special populations.
- Ability to maintain and keep accurate records and reports, including electronic data.
- Ability to operate radio and other communications equipment as well as computers.
- Ability to read a map.
- Ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to use firmness and tact with children, mentally disabled, and other passengers who may become unruly.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the elderly, children, handicapped, the general public, and other employees.
