Pay: $54,470.87 – $65,599.32 per year

Job Summary:

The pilot car driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe passage of oversized or wide loads on the road. This position involves leading, following, or accompanying oversized loads, ensuring proper navigation through roadways, construction zones, or any potential hazards. The pilot car driver is responsible for communicating with the load driver and local authorities to maintain safety and compliance with regulations. No prior experience is needed, as training for certification will be provided. This is a contract position paid per trip.

Key Responsibilities:

– Escort Oversized Loads: Lead and guide oversized or heavy loads, ensuring proper routes are taken.

– Traffic Control: Alert other drivers of the oversized load presence, using warning lights, flags, or signals.

– Route Planning: Work with logistics teams to plan safe and efficient routes that avoid potential hazards or restrictions.

– Communication: Maintain communication with the load driver and other pilot vehicles, relaying important information regarding road conditions or detours.

– Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations regarding the transportation of oversized loads.

– Safety Checks: Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the pilot car is in good working order.

Skills and Qualifications:

– Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

– Willingness to Learn: No prior experience required; training for certification will be provided.

– Knowledge of Regulations: Familiarity with state and federal regulations regarding oversized vehicle transport is a plus.

– Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills for clear interaction with drivers and law enforcement.

– Attention to Detail: Ability to notice and react to road signs, traffic conditions, and other environmental factors.

Working Conditions:

– Travel is a significant part of the job, often requiring long hours on the road.
