    Job purpose

    Cover any of our routes when a driver is out sick or on vacation. The courier is assigned a specific route which may include: Routine Route, STAT Route, or Shuttle/Relay Route;
    Safely operates company vehicle to pick up, properly store and deliver specimens and other materials; and provides service to internal and external customers in an organized, efficient, and professional manner.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Responsible for the safe and timely transportation of specimens, supplies, reports, equipment and materials to the appropriate destination.
    • Responsible for operating company vehicle safely as well as maintaining a valid driver’s license and driving record within acceptable company guidelines.
    • Ensure route is started with proper equipment tools. i.e., paper logs, carry bag, properly prepared coolers for separate thermal storage, cell phone, keys, door hangers, etc.
    • Follow route as scheduled/sequenced while allowing for will-call stops and special pickups.
    • Maintain specimen integrity at all times, including the utilization of specimen carry bag to transport specimens from client office/lock box to vehicle by temperature.
    • Place “Door Hanger” for will-call clients with no specimens out. Place “Door Hanger” for Daily clients who regularly provide specimens but none are available at scheduled pick up.
    • The Driver is required to notify the Night Staff of any service issue for a next morning follow up.
    • Communicate with Dispatch before leaving an area to ensure will-calls have been cleared.
    • Keep route information, sequencing and all client notes up to date.

    Working conditions

    Routes need covered on average two times a month. This requires working mornings or afternoon/evening depending on the route needing covered. Shift hours may vary approximately 2 – 6 hours a shift, depending on the workload. The routes are run Monday – Friday. Morning hours are approximately 7:00am – 10:30am and afternoon/evening shift hours are approximately 3:15pm – 9:30pm depending on the route covered. Morning shift would need covered about 5 weeks out of the year. On Tuesdays and Thursdays when no route coverage is needed there will be work at the office that will be assigned. Jobs around the office include but are not limited to fueling the vehicles, taking vehicles to the mechanic, cleaning cars, putting away supplies, and light cleaning around the lab. On Tuesdays and Thursdays there will be approximately 2-4 hours of work. The workload must be completed in order to be done with the shift. This a part-time position.

    Physical requirements

    Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate when available. Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Prolonged driving, sitting, light lifting, bending, and telephone use.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Pulls, packs, delivers and picks up medications, supplies and basic equipment.
    • May instruct patients on basic use of respiratory therapy equipment, durable medical equipment, oxygen equipment, and other equipment/services approved by state licensure limitations.
