    Position Summary:

    The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe operation of Rice University buses and for providing excellent transportation and customer service to the Rice community and visitors. The driver must serve as an ambassador to the Rice community and remain tactful at all times. The driver will provide detailed information to passengers on campus events, parking, building locations, and METRO information as needed. They must stay informed about all university policies and regulations, as well as state and federal transportation and traffic rules.

    On-campus position: This position is exclusively on-site, requiring all duties to be performed in person. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change. This role is classified as an essential position, requiring on-site presence to effectively carry out its vital functions.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Records any inspection information or list of defects on the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) as required by the FMCSA.

    Reports traffic incidents, including, traffic accidents and violations, or damage to the vehicles to supervisory staff.
    Reads bills of lading and manifests to determine assignment details.
    Checks all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate and obtains receipts or signatures for delivered goods or collects payment for services when required.
    Responsible for adhering to safety processes and protocols.

    Required Skills:

    Job Responsibilities

    • Perform pre-trip inspection on equipment in alignment with MPC policy and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Check tank truck/trailer or tractor/trailer for general operating requirements and make sure that all required equipment is available and in good operating condition. Note inspection and deficiencies on the pre-trip inspection form.
    • Drive a tank truck/trailer or tractor/trailer to transport product in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. Obey all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Follow MPC and site specific standard operating procedures for the loading and offloading process.
    • Perform post-trip inspection on equipment in alignment with MPC policy and DOT regulations. Complete all regulatory and customary paperwork. Ensure equipment is ready for the next shift.
    • Communicate all incidents, including safety and environmental concerns, according to company procedures.
    • Report all equipment issues in a timely manner.
    • Follow, maintain, and adhere to all safety rules and operating procedures, including all DOT regulations.

    Physical Requirements Include

    • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
    • Must be able to work on elevated spaces: 30+ feet on graded elevation.
    • Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, and/or pull 50-65 lbs.

    Pay: $23.00 Per Hour

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Maintain the cleanliness of fleet vehicles – interior and exterior
    • Driving, maneuvering, and parking vehicles
    • Fueling buses, replenishing fluids, and logging and recording all fluids
    • Downloading drive cameras & probes fare boxes
    • Perform light maintenance to shop areas, fueling stations, and related facilities.
