Job Description
The Iowa Veterans Home is looking for a full time Driver to assist with transporting residents and staff for medical and miscellaneous trips.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Drive in a safe manner at all times and obeys all traffic laws.
- Make decisions regarding transportation of residents if they develop health problems while enroute, such as returning, continuing the trip, or locating the nearest medical facility.
- Transport staff to and from Iowa Correctional Institute for Women.
- Return residents to IVH when being discharged from other facilities.
- Transport residents and staff in all types of weather conditions.
- Clean all vehicles in the IVH fleet inside and out on a regular basis.
- Make minor repairs to vehicles: replace light bulbs, wiper blades, fuses, and topping fluids.
- Conduct various office duties daily including checking resident trip schedule, emails, message board and cell phone messages.
Special requirements include:
- Must have CDL Class C or obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Obtain Certified Nursing Aide certificate within 6 months of hire. CNA Certification classes are available IVH.

Additional Qualification Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required. Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and endorsements.
